Rs. 15 Million Worth of Whisky and Cardamom Seized at Katunayake Airport

Four Sri Lankan passengers were arrested by airport customs officers at Katunayake Airport early this mo ing (July 6) while attempting to smuggle Rs. 15 million worth of whisky and cardamom into the country.

The suspects, residents of Colombo and Hatton, had retu ed from Bangalore, India, on IndiGo flight 6E-1183, which arrived at around 1:00 a.m.

Customs officers discovered a total of 378 bottles of whisky and 132 kilograms of cardamom, concealed in 20 pieces of luggage. The goods were reportedly purchased at a duty-free shopping complex at a foreign airport.

The suspects are currently in custody, and further investigations are being conducted by customs authorities.
