Public urged to be vigilant against AI-generated videos misusing CBSL Governor’s image

Saturday, 08 March 2025 - 9:12 pm

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has advised the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent artificial intelligence (AI)-generated videos, misusing the image of the CBSL Gove or to deceive individuals online.
These fraudulent videos, which are widely circulating on social media, particularly on Facebook, falsely depict the CBSL Gove or as endorsing investment schemes, promising extraordinarily high financial retu s.
The videos also direct viewers to an exte al link, which the CBSL suspects is being used to defraud unsuspecting users.
“The CBSL categorically denies any involvement in such promotions and emphasises that it does not engage in or endorse any investment schemes whatsoever,” the CBSL stated in a notice to the public.
“These videos are clear attempts by fraudulent parties to mislead the public, using deepfake technology and AI-generated content,” the statement further added.
To verify the authenticity of financial information, the CBSL advises the public to rely solely on official sources, including its official website and official social media pages.
The CBSL further urged the individuals to report any suspicious content through its official communication channels and stated that it is collaborating with the law enforcement authorities to take appropriate action against these fraudulent activities.
