Thursday, 10 July 2025 - 7:19 pm

Sri Lanka has been identified as one of the countries to receive the highest tariff reductions from the United States among the nations involved in recent trade negotiations, Finance Ministry Secretary Harshana Suriyapperuma said.

Addressing the media, Suriyapperuma said the tariff cut was the result of successful negotiations led by the Sri Lankan gove ment.

According to the Secretary, the reduction was secured through discussions with various stakeholders and sustained diplomatic efforts.

The United States will impose a 30 percent tariff on all goods exported from Sri Lanka starting August 1, easing its earlier proposal of a 44 percent levy announced in April under its reciprocal tariff strategy.
