Friday, 11 July 2025 - 6:00 pm

Colombo Additional Magistrate Harshana Kakunawela today informed the Bribery Commission that there is no need to obtain a court-issued arrest warrant to apprehend former Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne, as he is already named as a suspect in the ongoing investigation. The Magistrate stated that there is no legal barrier preventing the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) from arresting and producing him before court.

This clarification came in response to a request by the CIABOC seeking an arrest warrant.

The case involves allegations that a project legally awarded to a gove ment agency was unlawfully handed over to a foreign company, resulting in a loss exceeding Rs. 26.3 million to the state.
