Sri Lanka’s tourism earnings surpass USD 1.5Bln in first half of 2024

Sri Lanka has ea ed around USD 1.5 billion from tourism in the first six months of 2024, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said.

The CBSL points out that it is almost double the growth compared to the first six months of last year.

Meanwhile, foreign workers’ remittances for the first six months of 2024 were recorded as USD 3.14 billion, compared to the USD 2.82 billion income from this sector in the same period in 2023.

Additionally, the official foreign reserves of the country have risen to USD 5.7 billion in June, according to the CBSL.

The CBSL further stated that the Sri Lankan rupee has also appreciated against the US Dollar until the month of June 2024.
