Cabinet approves allowance for religious school teachers

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to provide an annual allowance of Rs. 7,500 to teachers serving in registered religious schools, starting in 2026.

The allowance, which includes both a teacher’s allowance and a uniform allowance, aims to encourage and support educators who serve in religious institutions without personal gain, contributing to the spiritual development of society.

The proposal, presented by the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, will apply to teachers in Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic, Christian, and Catholic religious schools registered with the gove ment.
