Starlink opens orders in Sri Lanka; select location, plan, and pay online

Starlink, the satellite-based inte et service operated by SpaceX, has officially begun operations in Sri Lanka. The company announced that Sri Lankan customers can now place orders through www.starlink.com/srilanka by selecting their location, usage type, preferred plan, and hardware before making the payment.  

According to the company, hardware devices are expected to be shipped within one to two weeks, with a 30-day trial period available.  

The launch is expected to enhance inte et accessibility in rural communities while offering premium, high-speed services for businesses and industries across the country.  

The official announcement was made yesterday (July 2) by SpaceX founder Elon Musk via his official ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) account.   

“Starlink now available in Sri Lanka!” Musk posted, confirming the long-awaited arrival of the high-speed satellite inte et service.   

Starlink received regulatory approval in August 2024 after the Sri Lankan gove ment amended its telecommunications laws to permit satellite inte et operators to function locally. The service is anticipated to transform inte et accessibility in remote and underserved regions, offering faster and more reliable connectivity.   

According to Starlink’s global availability map, coverage is now active throughout Sri Lanka, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s digital infrastructure development.   

The expansion into Sri Lanka is part of Starlink’s broader rollout across Asia. The service first launched in Japan in October 2022, followed by the Philippines in February 2023, Malaysia in July 2023, Mongolia in March 2024, Indonesia in May 2024, and now Sri Lanka in July 2025.   

Several other countries in the region, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Lebanon, are at various stages of regulatory approval and operational readiness.   

Pricing and Plans Announced   

Following its official launch, Starlink announced pricing options for both residential and business customers in Sri Lanka:   

Residential Plans:   

Lite Plan: Rs. 12,000 per month   
Standard Plan: Rs. 15,000 per month   
Hardware (Starlink Standard Kit): Rs. 118,000   

Business Plans:   

Priority 40GB: Rs. 24,100 per month   
Priority 1TB: Rs. 63,200 per month   
Priority 2TB: Rs. 127,000 per month   
Hardware (Starlink Performance Kit): Rs. 911,000
